Back in the 90s, Anders Kornerup had a well-run plastic factory, which i.a. produced parts for the furniture industry. But he saw more opportunities in developing products and framework conditions for the largest furniture manufacturers. It should be easy for them to scale both up and down, while getting faster and cheaper availability of a range of components for their furniture. It started with wheels for office chairs with the original ScanCastor wheel, which was patented back in the 1960s for the famous Kevi chair. Up through the 90s and 00s, the range was expanded to also include frames in own designs, gas cylinders, mechanisms for adjusting office chairs and molding of plastic shells for the chair itself in high quality and small tolerances.
During this period, ScanCastor became a popular supplier to a large number of major furniture manufacturers, because they get a quality-assured product at the right price, and with local Danish help for development and logistics service, so the responsibility has shifted from the manufacturer to ScanCastor. ScanCastor also offers their concept and products to manufacturers outside the Nordic region, as they already have the entire setup to handle significantly larger volumes with the establishment of the last production unit in Serbia.
